NETS Wiki

Here is a link to my wiki.  I had a hard time getting my head what we were supposed to include in this wiki, thanks to those who helped me make sense...

  1. I hadn't thought about assessing each lesson for NETS-T Standards separately. That's an interesting idea, to have teachers self-assess for multiple lessons, and than administrators could look through a set of lessons for a given teacher to ensure that they were meeting all NETS-T requirements. I had thought about it as a matrix with multiple technology infused lessons, each as their own row. This would be filled in by a teacher, or even several teachers in a content area or grade level. As I look through these, it's interesting how we all interpreted the assignment a little differently. I actually like when that happens with my own students. I like to believe that it means that they are thinking outside the box, and they are making the assignment meaningful for themselves.

    1. I agree Tammy, these assignments were rather open ended which can be fun to do and interpret as long as there isn't "one right answer." We have been lucky this semester.

  2. Yes, that is how one of my teacher friends do this. She actually gives a grade for each NETS and the kids might have 5 grades per project. I guess it is going towards competency based grading. As far as the Administration and Digital Citizenship, hopefully you all have an AUP, authorized use policy your district follows, which would be a great example of this. All assignments in my opinion should be very open ended as it is about your learning! :) It is what makes sense for you and how it makes sense. I provide the tools and you show what you learn. Just like what you do with your own students. It is a lot nicer than having 30 of the same projects that look alike and are not able to show creativity! :)

  3. The self reflection sheet that you added to your WIKI spaces is very beneficial. I also think that having teachers complete an initial evaluation of their current skills and tendencies will allow teachers and administrators an accurate way to assess their current skills and tendencies. By having teachers complete an informal evaluation using something like Google Docs this also allows for data and information to be sent to a neutral location, where information can be recorded, analyzed and retrieved at a later time. As an educator I also value the importance of self reflection. During my first year teaching, I frequently kept a journal of my lesson plans and teaching tendencies to help provide reflection later on. This also allowed me to look back and analyze tendencies that worked well in the classroom, and other practices that could have been improved.

  4. Great job, Jenn. Getting back to you late as I was very busy this week with our Hour of Code Fair preparations. I like the way you combined the standards with the artifacts. I didn't see the drop down menu though, but I assume that is because you created the spreadsheet on excel first?

    1. So what happened to your hoot hoot post. I wanted to say I agree, I get nervous every time we get close to having to use Chalk and Wire.
